The Fox and the Grapes

A musical retelling of Aesop's fable about a fox, some out-of-reach grapes, and the story he tells himself

Fox walked by, Fox looked high, Grapes so purple in the sky!

"Oh my, oh my, What a treat! Those grapes look juicy, ripe, and sweet!"

He crouched down low, He leapt up high, But the grapes just dangled in the sky.

Jump and miss! Jump and miss! "I'll get them yet, I won't stop this!"

He backed way up, He took a run, Jumped with all he had and then some.

Stretch and reach, Snap and grab, But his paws could only stab the air.

Once again, Twice again, Three times more and he was done.

Fox sat down, Licked his paw, Looked up at the grapes he never saw up close.

His tummy grumbled, His pride was sore, He didn't want to try once more.

So Fox stood up, Flicked his tail, Turned around upon the trail.

"Those grapes," he sniffed, "I'll bet they're SOUR. I wouldn't eat them for an hour!"

Sour grapes! Sour grapes! That's what Fox said walking away.
