The Horse and the Donkey
A musical retelling of Aesop's fable about a horse, a donkey, and a road that turned out longer than the horse expected
Down the road in the dust and the heat, A horse and a donkey moved slow on their feet. The donkey was loaded from ankles to ears, With bundles and barrels and baskets and gear.
The horse walked beside him with nothing to bear, Just a saddle of leather and wind in his hair. The donkey said, "Friend, I can barely go on, Would you carry a little before I am gone?"
But the horse shook his mane And he turned away, "That's not my load And it's not my day."
The donkey took one step, The donkey took two, The donkey went down And his traveling was through.
The master came round and saw him alone, He picked up every barrel and sack, And loaded them all on the horse's back.

One horse. Every barrel. The whole long road home.
