The Lion's Share

A musical retelling of Aesop's fable about a hunt, a Lion, and where the phrase "the lion's share" comes from

Lion, Fox, and Jackal too, Wolf came along to make it through. "Let's all hunt and share our prey, We'll divide it fair today!"

That's why we call it "the lion's share" -- The strong one takes more than is fair. Three walked off without a bone. One stayed back, and ate alone.

Wolf ran fast and caught a stag, Called his friends—a perfect snag! Lion stepped up with a grin, "I'll divide where we begin!"

That's why we call it "the lion's share" -- The strong one takes more than is fair. Three walked off without a bone. One stayed back, and ate alone.

"One for me, I am the King, Two is mine—the strongest thing! Three is mine, the bravest beast!" Lion took the whole big feast.

That's why we call it "the lion's share" -- The strong one takes more than is fair. Three walked off without a bone. One stayed back, and ate alone.

"Who wants slice four?" the Lion growled, Showing teeth and claws he scowled. Wolf had run. Wolf had caught. Wolf walked off without a thought.

Now Wolf goes hungry through the night. Fox goes thirsty, out of sight. Jackal slinks back through the trees. Lion eats. The forest sees.

That's why we call it "the lion's share" -- The strong one takes more than is fair. Three walked off without a bone. One stayed back, and ate alone.
