The Two Pots
A musical retelling of Aesop's fable about friendship between unequals
Down the river, smooth and slow, Two little pots began to flow. Brass was sturdy, gleaming bright, Clay was thin and pale and light.
"Float by me!" called Brass Pot bold, "I'll keep you safe through heat and cold! I'm strong, I'm tough, I'm built to last -- I'll guide you through the currents fast!"
But Clay Pot trembled. "Brass, my friend -- Please float beyond the river's bend. You'd never mean to bring me harm, But kindness isn't all the charm."
"You are sturdy, I am thin -- One small bump would do me in. You'd float on, no scratch, no scar -- I'd lie in pieces near and far."
Brass Pot listened. Brass Pot knew. So down they drifted, each their own — Brass on one current, clay on another, Safe and whole, from foam to stone.
